Mark Bunten, Workshop FacilitatorNext Workshop: Saturday, April 22 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Mindfulness has become associated with all things positive for our health and well-being.  In this workshop we will take a look at the concept of mindfulness from its origins to its modern scientific expression, especially as a therapeutic approach to alleviating mental suffering.

Through meditation exercises guided by step-by-step instructions and discussion, you will learn how to focus your attention and open up to what is occurring in your present experience. We will discuss how you can apply mindfulness insights to your everyday activities. You will be provided with worksheets to continue practicing the skills and understanding you develop in the workshop.

  • How to focus your attention on your breathing and recover from distraction.

Self-Compassion & Self-Acceptance – one-day workshop with Laurisa Dill, M.Ed.

Compassion Workshop (video)
Video transcript
Hi my name is Laurisa – I am a therapist here at the Mindfulness Clinic. You may be watching this video because you are wondering how learning compassion can help you. If you come to my one day workshop I will teach you how compassion can help you improve your mood and have more positive experiences in your life. In this work shop I will show you how self-compassion can help you overcome shame and doubt and how to motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism. Learning self-compassion will help you to recognize your own suffering and pain and deal with difficult feelings with greater ease. Compassion includes having mindful balanced awareness so that you can be less overwhelmed with intense emotions. Some of the methods that I will teach in this one day workshop are based on principles from mindfulness meditation. You do not need to have any experience with mindfulness meditation. In some parts of the workshop I will guide you through reflections and meditations that you can use to help you in difficult times. Other exercises in the one day workshop will include written reflections and gentle yoga postures. The workshop will be 6 hours long with a lunch break in the middle of the day. When you complete the workshop you will have a clear understanding of how to use compassion practices in your daily life to help you feel better, improve your relationships, and have greater emotional resilience. Please call us at the Mindfulness Clinic if you are interested in signing up for this workshop. I hope to see you there.

Self-compassion is a powerful tool to support yourself living a life with meaning and vitality. Many people feel that they have become unconfident and critical of themselves. This workshop is designed to help you improve your mood and have more positive experiences in your life.

If you take this workshop, you will learn mindfulness-based meditations, visualizations, written reflections and gentle yoga postures. With these tools, you will find it easier to be kinder and more patient with yourself. You will learn how to stop being too hard on yourself without lapsing into self-indulgence. The training does not require any special skills or past experience. If you bring a willingness to learn, that is all you will need to benefit from the workshop.

The workshop is held in our large group room with panoramic cityscape views. We have chairs, mats and high-quality meditation cushions available so you can find a posture that feels right for you while meditating.

Your learning will be based on a combination of practical exercises with guidance and feedback and a slideshow presentation. You will be given a free workbook for the exercises.
