MBCT for Provoked Vestibulodynia (PVD) and Vaginismus - The Mindfulness Clinic

MBCT for Provoked Vestibulodynia (PVD) and Vaginismus

PVD involves chronic and distressing genital pain and Vaginismus involves pelvic muscle tension. PVD and Vaginismus make vaginal penetration very difficult or impossible and these physical conditions can cause great distress, fear, shame, and relationship problems.

Fortunately a very helpful treatment has been developed for women who experience PVD and Vaginismus symptoms. This program is a specialized adaptation of MBCT. It is not a ‘cure’ for pain but participants learn to be less reactive to pain sensations so they can experience sexual arousal and intimacy. They judge themselves less and they are better able to negotiate sexual preferences as an equal sexual partner. They also feel more confident about when, or if, to reintroduce intercourse, or other penetration into their sex lives.
